Wild, desolate and beautiful, can be a bit of a journey to reach, the narrow uneven road can be a bit of a challange. Really worth the effort. We visited on a windy day and I've loved it. Enjoy wilderness.
Quiet, not crowded, clean, beautiful.
Fonza beach is halfway along a rather demanding trekking route with a gradient of around 400 m. We start from Marina di Campo and follow a fairly undulating and often bumpy path, not within everyone's reach. The views are interesting, but not exceptional. Once you get off the pebble beach of Fonza, you can continue the circular route climbing up to Mount Tambone and descending towards Marina di Campo following a path that is nothing other than the bed of a small stream.
Fonza is a wonderful beach made of round, smooth and flat stones, the bottom, initially stony, soon becomes sandy giving the water a light blue color which is reminiscent of the scent of "Acqua dell'Elba". In the center is a smooth rock outcrop. The bottom is low, also suitable for children. Getting there is more difficult. The rosemary path is a fairly complex trekking route, initially flat and becomes up and down with slippery surfaces. Better is the hiking road that starts from the crossroads with the aquarium which can also be done on foot.
Beach difficult to reach and therefore not very crowded even in high season.
To get to Fonza beach you have to take the crossroads that leads to the Elba aquarium and continue for about 2 km on the dirt road.
Once you arrive you can park your car on the roadside or in the few free car parks.
The beach is made up of large, smooth pebbles which make it quite comfortable.
The beach is small and the water is clean.
A delightful and quiet cove.
This beach can be reached by car along a dirt road (there is no need for an off-road vehicle as the road is smooth and has no holes or difficulties) arriving from Marina di Campo in a few minutes
Possibility to park along the road where space allows!
You can also get there by following a very beautiful path surrounded by nature from Marina di Campo with an up and down path that follows the entire coast while always seeing the sea
The beach is quite large and does not have umbrella or deckchair service. It is made up of medium and small, very round stones.
The water is crystal clear.
A little frequented but very pretty cove!
You can obviously also reach it by sea!!
Very clean water, stony beach and seabed, little frequented: you can get there from the road to the aquarium in Marina di Campo. It is recommended to get there by car: the road is a bit long and unpaved.
